Hey, neighbor
Through trial and error, lots of labor, and a bunch of faith, the farm made it’s way into the world. 2024 was our first season of growing cut flowers and it was better than I ever could have hoped for. Situated on a 1/4 of an acre, this small but mighty “farm” produces all that it can for the locals of the Badlands and Black Hills of South Dakota. The goal is simple…to harvest blooms and be a good neighbor. Homestake Flowers is here to bring joy and friendship and beauty to our community. The 2025 season is almost here and, just like last year, has been a test of mental, physical, and spiritual grit. But God is good and the flowers grow and all that hard work pays off. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for supporting Homestake and being a friend.
Meet the florist turned farmer
Oh hey guys, it’s me! Lisa Rae (last name Siemonsma, but I won’t make you say it out loud). I am the wild gal who decided to start a flower farm in our backyard. Before this dream, I was a florist for many years in my hometown of Sonora, CA. I owned a wonderful flower shop that my childhood best friend and I built together. It was a whole lot of fun, and a whole lot of work. Partnering with local flower farmers was one of my favorite parts of the job. I was always amazed at what they would bring through our shop doors and even more impressed by the vase life of locally grown blooms. They are actual magic.
Fast forward a few years and you would find me in a little town just shy of 100 people, near the Badlands of South Dakota. I know, I know. We are wild. But here we are! As I‘ve had the chance to start creating, building, and growing our home, flower farming just naturally sprang up as a part of the beautiful process.
I am so very humbled and glad to have the chance to grow flowers for the community around me. Adding beauty into the world is such a joy and I thank you for going on this journey with me. In the failures and victories, Homestake Flower Farm is back for season 2!
